CIL was awarded Maharatna status on 11th April 2011.
CIL was the 5th company to achieve Maharatna status, following ONGC, IOC, and SAIL.
Total manpower of CIL as of 1st March 2011 was 3.84 lakh.
CIL operated a total of 471 mines as of 1st April 2011.
After expansion, Gevra OCP will be the largest in CIL.

MCL has established joint ventures MJSJ and MNH.
