Milieu Therapy
- Milieu therapy is socio-environmental therapy
- Staff attitudes and behaviors, and client activities, are determined by client needs.
- The "therapeutic milieu" refers to the environment where treatment is provided.
- Its structure controls, stabilizes, and improves problematic emotions/behaviors.
- It enables clients to use problem-solving skills to cope with self, others, and environmental stressors.
Goals of Therapeutic Milieu in Psychiatric Setting
- Provides a physically and psychologically safe environment.
- Maximizes the highest level of psychological functioning.
- Identifies acute and chronic physical illnesses affecting symptoms.
- Promotes healthy coping and symptom management behaviors.
- Helps provide independent activities of daily living.
