Insert Tab

  • The Insert Tab is the second tab in the Ribbon and contains commands for inserting different elements into a document.
  • The tab is divided into seven groups: Pages, Tables, Illustrations, Links, Header & Footer, Text, and Symbol.

Cover Page

  • A cover page is like the cover of a book and contains basic information such as the title, date, author, and more.
  • To insert a cover page:
    • Click the Insert Tab and click the Cover Page button in the Pages group.
    • Select the cover page you want to insert from the list of built-in cover pages.
    • The cover page appears as the first page in the document, regardless of the insertion point.
  • To edit a cover page:
    • Click in a placeholder and type your own text.
  • To save a cover page:
    • Select the cover page, click the Cover Page button, and then click "Save Selection to Cover Page Gallery."
    • Type the name of the cover page and click OK.
  • To remove a cover page:
    • Click the Insert Tab, click the Cover Page button, and then click "Remove Current Cover Page."

Blank Page

  • The Blank Page command is used to insert a blank page anywhere in the document.
  • To insert a blank page:
    • Place the insertion point where you want to insert a blank page.
    • Click the Insert Tab and click the Blank Page button in the Pages group.
  • There are two cases:
    • If the cursor is at the end of the current page, a blank page is inserted after the current page.
    • If the cursor is between text, a blank page is inserted after the current page, and the text after the insertion point is moved to the new page.

Page Break

  • The Page Break command is used to start a new page.
  • To insert a page break:
    • Place the insertion point where you want to begin a new page.
    • Click the Insert Tab and click the Page Break button in the Pages group, or press Ctrl + Enter.
  • There are two cases:
    • If the cursor is at the end of the current page, a page break is added at the insertion point, and the insertion point is moved to a new page.
    • If the cursor is between text, a page break is added at the insertion point, the insertion point is moved to a new page, and the text after the insertion point is moved to the new page.

Picture

  • To insert a picture:
    • Click the Insert Tab and click the Picture button in the Illustrations group.
    • Navigate to the file you want to insert, select it, and click Insert.
  • The picture is inserted into the document, and the Format contextual tab appears on the Ribbon under Picture Tools.
  • To change the size of a picture:
    • Select the picture, click the Format contextual tab, and specify the measurements in the Height and Width text boxes.
  • To crop a picture:
    • Select the picture, click the Format contextual tab, and click the Crop button.
    • Click and drag the picture cropping handles.
  • To change the visual style of a picture:
    • Select the picture, click the Format contextual tab, and select a style from the Picture Styles group.
  • To add a border to a picture:
    • Select the picture, click the Format contextual tab, and click the Picture Border button.
    • Change the border color, thickness, and style.
  • To clear the border of a picture:
    • Select the picture, click the Format contextual tab, and select No Outline.
  • To apply special effects to a picture:
    • Select the picture, click the Format contextual tab, and click the Picture Effects button.
    • Select an option from the menu.

ClipArt

  • ClipArt is a collection of pictures and graphics included with Word.
  • To insert ClipArt:
    • Click the Insert Tab and click the ClipArt button in the Illustrations group.
    • Type the name of what you're looking for in the "Search for" text box and click Go.
    • Click the clip art you want to insert.
  • To close the ClipArt task pane:
    • Click the Close button in the upper-right corner.

  • A screenshot is an image of any visible item on your monitor.
  • To insert a screenshot of an open window:
    • Click the Insert Tab and click the Screenshot button in the Illustrations group.
    • Select an image from the Available Windows gallery.
  • To insert a screen clipping:
    • Make the window from which you want to take a screen clipping active.
    • Click the Insert Tab and click the Screenshot button list arrow.
    • Select Screen Clipping.
  • To cancel a screen clipping:
    • Press the Esc key.

Shapes

  • Word comes with an extensive set of ready-made shapes, called AutoShapes.
  • To insert a shape:
    • Click the Insert Tab and click the Shapes button in the Illustrations group.
    • Click the shape you want to insert.
    • Click and drag on the page until the shape reaches the desired size.
  • To add text to a shape:
    • Click the shape and start typing, or right-click the shape and select Add text.
  • To change the fill color of a shape:
    • Double-click the shape, click the Format contextual tab, and click the Shape Fill button.
    • Select an option from the menu.
  • To remove the fill color of a shape:
    • Double-click the shape, click the Format contextual tab, and click the Shape Fill button.
    • Select No Fill.
  • To change the outline of a shape:
    • Double-click the shape, click the Format contextual tab, and click the Shape Outline button.
    • Select an outline color and thickness.
  • To change the visual style of a shape:

Resizing Objects

  • To resize an object:
    • Click the object to select it.
    • Click and drag one of the object's sizing handles.
    • Release the mouse button.
  • To maintain the object's proportions while resizing:
    • Hold down the Shift key as you drag.

Moving Objects

  • To move an object:
    • Click and drag the object to a new location.
    • Release the mouse button when the object is positioned where you want it.

Copying Objects

  • To copy an object:
    • Press and hold down the Ctrl key.
    • Click and drag the object to a new location.
    • Release the mouse button, and then release the Ctrl key.

Deleting Objects

  • To delete an object:
    • Select the object.
    • Press the Delete key.

Aligning Objects

  • To align objects:
    • Select the objects.
    • Click the Format contextual tab and click the Align button.
    • Select an alignment option from the menu.

Layering Objects

  • By default, the first object inserted in a document is assigned to the bottom layer.
  • Each object inserted thereafter is assigned one level above.
  • The final object inserted appears on the topmost layer.
  • To layer an object:
    • Select the object.
    • Click the Bring Forward or Send Backward button, or click the button list arrow and select an option.
  • The four layering commands are:
    • Bring to Front: Brings the selected object in front of all other objects.
    • Send to Back: Sends the selected object behind all other objects.
    • Bring Forward: Brings the selected object up one layer.
    • Send Backward: Sends the selected object down one layer.
