Creating Tables
- To create a table in Microsoft Word, click Insert > Table and select the number of rows and columns from the grid, or use the Insert Table… option for more control over the table dimensions.
- Right-clicking in the table allows you to insert or delete cells, and select multiple cells or entire rows and columns by clicking and dragging your mouse across the cells.
- The border of a table cell can be controlled, with options to change the width or thickness of the border, and which sides of the cell the border appears on.
Adding Images
- Images can be added to a Word document by placing the cursor where you want the image to appear, then going to Insert > Pictures and selecting a picture from your computer.
- The image can be resized by clicking and dragging the corners or sides, and rotated by clicking and dragging the circular arrow at the top.
- Holding down the Shift key while resizing an image maintains its proportions.
Text Wrap
- Images are treated as inline text characters, which can increase the line spacing in a document.
- Text wrapping options can be changed to control how text wraps around an image.
Hyperlinks
- Hyperlinks allow you to link to websites, email addresses, or files on your computer or in a shared database.
- To add a hyperlink, select the text to be changed into a hyperlink, then use one of three options: Ctrl+K, right-click and select Hyperlink, or Insert > Links > Hyperlink.
- The Hyperlink dialog box allows you to enter the address and text to display for the link.
- Visiting a hyperlink can be done by clicking on the link, and can be customized to open in a different browser.
Watermarks
- A watermark is an identifying image, shape, or piece of text that overlays a document.
- To add a watermark, go to Design > Watermark, and choose from a menu or create a custom watermark.
- Custom watermarks can be edited to change the text and appearance.
- Image watermarks can be added by selecting a picture from your computer and adjusting the washout effect.
