Coding-Decoding Methods

• Direct Coding: A method of coding where each letter of the alphabet is assigned a specific symbol or number. Examples include replacing letters with their opposite in the alphabet, assigning numbers to letters based on their position in the alphabet, and mixing alphabets and numbers.

Alphabet Coding

• Opposite Alphabet: A method where a letter is replaced with another letter directly opposite it in a complete alphabet. Ex: A maps to Z, B to Y, C to X, and so on.

Indirect Coding

• Mixed Coding: A method of coding where letters are combined with numbers or other symbols. This can include mixed positions, positions, number/letter combos. Includes both mixed letters and numbers or other symbols.

Position Value

• Positional Value: A method where each letter in the alphabet is assigned a numerical value based on its position. The value of each letter in the alphabet is assigned in consecutive order. A = 1, B = 2; C = 3, and so on.

Types of Coding/Decoding Patterns

• Forward/Backward: A pattern where letters are shifted a specific number of positions forward or backward in the alphabet. Example: Shifting each letter 3 positions forward or backward.

• Cross Pattern: A pattern involving a crisscross or grid arrangement, where numbers or letters are mapped in a non-linear fashion.

• Reverse Order: A pattern where order of the source letters are reverse. Example: Writing the letters in a word in reverse order (for example; FATHER becomes REHTAF).

• Opposite Alphabet: Replacing each letter with its opposite in the alphabet.

• Direct Coding: Assigning a specific numeric or symbolic value to each letter according to a predefined rule. A fixed rule of ordering to map source letter.

• Illogical Coding/Decoding: Coding/Decoding patterns that lack a straightforward rule or pattern. This can be a mixture of methods.
