Study Notes

Registration Requirements

  • To qualify for registration, applicants must have an average of 75% or higher and no rating below 50% in any major subjects.
  • Applicants must not have failed in at least 60% of subjects computed.

Certificate Issuance

  • No certificate shall be issued to applicants below 21 years of age.
  • Certificates shall be signed by all members of the Board and attested by its secretary.
  • The Board may issue a Certificate of Registration (COR) without examination to certain individuals, such as those who have graduated from a recognized BSMT/BSPH program and have been practicing for 3 years.

Grounds for Refusal of Certificate

  • The Board may refuse to issue a certificate to individuals convicted of a criminal offense involving moral turpitude, or those guilty of immoral or dishonorable conduct, unsound mind, or incurable communicable disease.

Administrative Investigation

  • Administrative investigations shall be conducted by at least 2 members of the Board with one legal officer sitting during the investigation.
  • Suspension of a certificate requires a 2/3 majority vote and shall not exceed 2 years.
  • Revocation of a certificate requires a unanimous vote.

Reissuance of Certificate

  • The Board may reissue a revoked registration certificate upon application and for reasons deemed proper and sufficient.

Foreigners

  • No foreigner shall be admitted to examination, or be given a certificate of registration, unless the country or state permits Filipino Medical Technologists to practice within its territorial limits on the same basis as its subjects or citizens.

Roster of Medical Technologists

  • A roster for medical technologists shall be prepared annually by the Secretary of the Board.
  • The roster shall contain the name, address, citizenship, date of registration or issuance of certificate, and other data.

Examination

  • All applicants for registration as medical technologists shall be required to undergo a written examination, which shall be given by the Board annually in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao.
  • Written notices of the examination shall be published at least 30 days prior to the date of examination.

Qualification for Examination

  • To qualify for examination, applicants must be in good health and good moral character.
  • Applicants must have completed a course of at least 4 years leading to the degrees of BSMT or BSPH conferred by a recognized school, university or college.
  • Applicants who have graduated from other paramedical professions and have been actually performing medical technology for the last 5 years prior to the examination may also qualify.

  • The examination shall cover the following subjects with their respective relative weights:
    • Clinical Chemistry (20%)
    • Microbiology (20%)
    • Hematology (20%)
    • Blood banking and serology (20%)
    • Clinical Microscopy (10%)
    • Histopathologic Techniques and Medical Technology Laws and Bioethics (10%)
