Observing Objects Around Us

- The process of classifying objects based on shared properties is called classification.
- Objects can be grouped based on their shape, color, hardness, softness, shine, dullness, or the material they are made of.
- For example, a ball can be made from various materials, and some materials can be used for multiple objects.

Appearance of Materials
- Materials can be distinguished by their appearance: wood looks different from iron, which looks different from copper or aluminum.
- Some materials share similarities, which differentiate them from others. For instance, iron, copper, and aluminum are different from wood.
- Materials can be categorized by sheen, texture, color, and other noticeable features.
- Lustrous materials have a shiny surface. Examples include iron, copper, zinc, gold, and aluminum.
- Non-Lustrous materials lack a shiny surface; examples include paper, wood, rubber, and jute.
Hardness of Materials
- Materials can be categorized based on their ability to compress, with some being easier to compress than others.
