Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH)
A type of soft tissue cancer that is often painless and grows slowly but can get very large.
Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma (UPS)

Study Notes
Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma (MFH)
- Also known as Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma (UPS)
- The most common subtype of MFH is a soft-tissue MFH
- Most common malignant primary soft tissue tumour in those aged over 50
- Typically presents as a painless enlarging soft tissue mass over months
- Can be large at diagnosis, measuring tens of centimetres
- X-ray appearance: partly calcified soft tissue mass
- Important diagnostic feature: cortical erosion of underlying bone
- MRI appearance: high signal on both T1 and T2 weighted sequences
