Formulas

Basic Formula Structure

• = symbol is used to start a formula
• Formula consists of:
  • Operator (e.g. +, -, *, /)
  • Values or cell references
• Examples:
  • =A1+B1 adds values in cells A1 and B1
  • =A1*A2 multiplies values in cells A1 and A2

Formula Types

• Arithmetic formulas: perform mathematical operations (e.g. =A1+B1)
• Comparison formulas: compare values (e.g. =A1>B1)
• Text formulas: manipulate text strings (e.g. =LOWER(A1))
• Logical formulas: test conditions (e.g. =IF(A1>B1, "True", "False"))
• Array formulas: perform operations on arrays of values

Formula Functions

• SUM: adds up a range of values
• AVERAGE: calculates the average of a range of values
• COUNT: counts the number of cells in a range that contain numbers
• IF: tests a condition and returns one value if true and another value if false
• VLOOKUP: looks up a value in a table and returns a corresponding value

Charts

Types of Charts

• Column charts: compare values across different categories
• Bar charts: compare values across different categories
• Line charts: show trends over time or other continuous data
• Pie charts: show how different categories contribute to a whole
• Scatter charts: show relationships between two variables

Chart Components

• Data series: the data being plotted
• Axis: the x-axis and y-axis that provide context for the data
• Legend: a key that explains the colors and symbols used in the chart
• Title: a brief description of the chart
• Data labels: additional information about individual data points

Chart Creation

• Select the data range to be charted
• Go to the "Insert" tab and select the chart type
• Customize the chart as needed (e.g. add title, change axis labels)
• Use the "Chart Tools" tabs to further customize the chart
