Study Notes
Anterior Lung Auscultation Points
- Begin at the apex of the lung, located above the clavicle.
- Assess the right and left upper lobes in the 2nd intercostal space.
- Evaluate the right middle lobe and the left upper lobe at the 4th intercostal space.
- For the right and left lower lobes, move to the midaxillary line at the 6th intercostal space.
Posterior Lung Auscultation Points
- Start just above the scapulae to listen to the apices of the lungs.
- Locate C7 (vertebral prominence) and proceed to T3 to assess right and left upper lobes.
- Assess right and left lower lobes from T3 down to T10.
- Ensure to move the stethoscope around for thorough evaluation and compare both sides.

- Characteristics include:
- High-pitched and loud sounds.
