    • Syed Ahmed Barelvi was born in a famous Syed family and had little inclination towards education. He spent most of his time learning and practicing with weapons.
    • When he reached the young age, he traveled to Delhi to learn from a religious scholar, Shah Abdul Aziz. After completing his education, he joined the army and participated in several war campaigns.
    • Amir Khan soon became subservient to the British government and this angered Syed Ahmed, so he left him and returned to Delhi.
    • In 1821, he went to Mecca to perform Hajj and stayed there for two years. During his stay, he came into contact with many scholars and revolutionaries and acquired knowledge of the various movements of the world of Islam.
    • When he returned to India, he started the religious preaching. He waged Jehad against the Sikhs rule in Punjab and northwest.
    • Haji Shariatullah founded the Faraizi movement in 1818, which was a peaceful protest against the cruelty of the government.
    • He used mo as a means to spread his message to the masses.
    • Haji Shariatullah was exiled to Nawabganj, accused of being behind the protest and disturbance in East Bengal.
    • Later he died in Dhaka district in 1840.
    • Mohsin-ul-Mulk, his son, continued the movement. He divided East Bengal into areas and appointed khalifas for each of them. The khalifas were responsible for the social, political and religious development of the circles.
