Subspaces of R3
- {(a, b, c) | a, b, c rational} is not a subspace of R3 because scalar multiplication fails.
- {(0, 0, 0)} is a subspace of R3.
- {(a, a + b, –a + 2b) | a, b real} and {(a, a – b, b) | a, b real} are subspaces of R3.
Vector Spaces
- The vector space C5 [a, b] over R is the set of all functions f ∈ C [a, b] where the 5th derivative exists and is continuous.
