The Pledge and the Principles
- The Prophet preached the Faith, and the pledge was taken with 73 men and 2 women.
- Al-‘Abbas bin ‘Abdul Muttalib, the Prophet's uncle, asked the Ansâr to defend the Prophet if they took the pledge.
- The principles of the pledge were:
- to listen and obey in all circumstances
- to spend in plenty and scarcity
- to enjoin good and forbid evil
- to fear no one's censure in Allah's service
- to defend the Prophet if he sought help and to debar him from what they debarred themselves and their families from
The Pause of Revelation
- There was a pause in Allah's revelation for a few days to relieve the Prophet's fear and make him long for the Revelation.
- The Prophet heard a voice from the sky and saw the angel who had visited him in the cave of Hira'.
- The revelation started coming strongly, frequently, and regularly after the pause.
The Phases of the Prophet's Life
- The Makkan phase lasted nearly 13 years and can be divided into three stages:
- the stage of the secret Call (3 years)
- the stage of the proclamation of the Call (open preaching) in Makkah (from the beginning of the fourth year to almost the end of the tenth year)
- The Madinese phase lasted fully 10 years.
The Conversion of Notable Figures
- Hamzah bin 'Abdul-Muttalib converted to Islam in Dhul Hijjah, the sixth year of Prophethood.
- 'Umar bin Al-Khattab converted to Islam in Dhul-Hijjah, the sixth year of Prophethood, three days after Hamzah's conversion.
The Night Journey
- The Prophet's breast was cleft by Gabriel, and his heart was extracted and washed with the water of Zamzam.
- He was given two gold vessels, one with milk and one with wine, and he chose the milk.
- He saw two manifest rivers, the Nile and the Euphrates, and two hidden ones.
- He saw Malik, the guardian of Hell, and the Hell dwellers.
- He saw the camels of Makkan merchants and guided them to some of their lost animals.
- The 'Night Journey' raised a stir among the people, and they questioned the Prophet about it.
