Collection Management

• A 3-5% annual replacement of older materials is recommended.

Holdings and Selection

• Book selection is a shared responsibility among librarians, teachers, and administrators.
• Basic policies for selecting printed and non-print materials should be formally and clearly formulated.
• All materials and equipment should be properly organized, stored, and displayed for easy retrieval and dissemination.
• Regular inventory and weeding of the collection is necessary.

Collection Quality and Relevance

• The collection should consist of quality, authoritative, up-to-date, and relevant resources that support the library's mission.
• The collection should include a variety of formats, including books, journals, and non-print resources.
• The recommended annual growth rate of the collection is 5%.
• Subscription to electronic databases of scholarly journals is necessary to complement the collection.

Organization and Care of Materials

• Collections should be organized to ensure efficient identification and timely retrieval.
• The library should maintain a local history collection.
• The size of the library collection is dependent on the allocation from the National Library and local government unit.
• The librarian/media specialist is responsible for selecting and acquiring materials based on a written Collection Development Plan.

Collection Development and Maintenance

• Collection management recognizes the importance of access to resources rather than ownership.
• The collection should include resources from other collections not owned by the library.
• Collection management includes leasing, renting, and cooperative storage.
• A regular deselection program should be undertaken to keep the collection relevant and up-to-date.

Filipiniana Collection

• The holdings should include an extensive Filipiniana collection to meet user demand.
• A comprehensive acquisition of current Filipiniana titles relevant to the school's curriculum is strongly encouraged.
• The Filipiniana collection should be separated from the general collection for purposes of identity, preservation, and functionality.

Resource Ratio

• The recommended ratio of volumes to combined total student population and full-time equivalent (FTE) teaching faculty is 10:1.
