Ley Electoral

• Also known as the Federal Electoral Law (LEY FEDERAL ELECTORAL)
• Regulates the electoral process in Mexico
• Establishes the rules and procedures for federal elections, including presidential, senatorial, and congressional elections
• Sets out the rights and obligations of voters, candidates, and political parties
• Prohibits certain practices, such as vote buying and electoral fraud

Órganos Electorales

• National Electoral Institute (Instituto Nacional Electoral, INE): autonomous institution responsible for organizing and overseeing federal elections
  • Ensures the integrity and transparency of the electoral process
  • Registers political parties and candidates
  • Conducts voter registration and maintains the electoral roll
  • Oversees the counting and declaration of election results
• Electoral Courts (Tribunales Electorales): responsible for resolving electoral disputes and controversies
• State Electoral Institutes (Institutos Estatales Electorales): responsible for organizing and overseeing state and local elections

Sistema de Partidos

• Multiparty system: multiple parties are allowed to participate in elections
• Political parties are recognized by the INE and must register with the institute
• Parties must have a minimum number of members and meet certain requirements to maintain their registration
• Parties can participate in elections at the federal, state, and local levels
• Coalition agreements are allowed between parties, but must be registered with the INE

Financiamiento de Partidos Políticos

• Public financing: parties receive funding from the state for election campaigns and ordinary activities
• Private financing: parties can receive donations from individuals and organizations, but must disclose the sources and amounts of funding
• Regulations on campaign spending: parties must report their expenses and are subject to limits on campaign spending
• Transparency and accountability: parties must disclose their financial information and are subject to audits and penalties for non-compliance
