Learning Support Educator Duties

An educator who assists teachers and students, especially those with special needs, to meet curriculum requirements.

Lifting limits based on weight: up to 27 kg by a single SLSE; between 28-54 kg by two SLSEs; over 54 kg using a mechanical lift.

Pushing wheelchairs: up to 45 kg occasionally; up to 28 kg frequently; up to 9 kg as needed.

SLSEs provide assistance to students in physical education, games, educational outings, and therapy sessions, and ensure appropriate meal times.

SLSEs assist in student transportation, ensuring safety, according to school directives and the law.

Helping students in and out of vehicles and securing wheelchairs/buggies, and students with seatbelts.

SLSEs observe students' transportation from and to school during normal hours.

SLSEs can have additional duties delegated outside of the basic transportation tasks.

SLSEs can be assigned any additional responsibilities as required by the Permanent Secretary.

Creating a learning environment where all students feel valued and respected, working with various stakeholders and agencies.

Providing access to therapies like hydrotherapy and sensory integration to support student learning and development.

Adhering to the school's principles, values, and rules.

Assisting students with mobility needs like lifting or wheelchair use, following health and safety guidelines.

SLSEs follow specific weight limits when lifting; up to 27 kg alone, 28 to 54 kg with another person, and over 54 kg requires a mechanical lift.

SLSEs ensure maximum educational benefit and safety for all students by providing assistance during various activities, including physical education, games, excursions, therapy sessions, and feeding.

SLSEs might assist with student transport, following safety regulations and instructions from school officials.

SLSEs assist students boarding and disembarking transport vehicles. For wheelchair users, they secure both wheelchair and student restraints for safety.

SLSEs supervise student transport to and from school during regular school hours. Out-of-hours supervision is paid separately.

SLSEs may be assigned various tasks by their supervisors, contributing to the overall educational process.

SLSEs assist teachers and promote student independence in learning, ensuring all students benefit from educational experiences.
