Module 3: What Makes Individuals Thrive? Motivation and Vision

  • Self-determination theory highlights the needs for autonomy, relatedness, and competence as crucial for motivation.
  • A continuum of motivation exists from extrinsic to intrinsic motivation, with external regulation, introjected motivation, identification, integration and intrinsic motivation being different stages.
  • Vision, as a communication of an inspiring future for a group, plays a role in guiding and motivating individuals towards goals.

Supporting Autonomy

Neuroscience Perspective (NEA/PEA)

  • The Neuroscience perspective suggests that a positive emotional attractor (PEA) state (positive emotions) is ideal for vision-setting and change processes, while negative emotional attractor (NEA) states (negative emotions) may hinder this.
