- Stay out of doorways and visually assess the scene, noting the number of people present and any hazards
Responding to an Incident
- Approach the scene entrance safely, avoiding direct confrontation
- Assess the situation, taking note of the number of people present, their body language, and facial expressions
- Scan the room for hazards, such as possible weapons or hiding places
- Deal with any immediate threats first, and communicate effectively to calm the situation
De-escalation Techniques
- Use communication techniques to calm the situation and maintain control
- Turn down noise sources, such as music systems and televisions, and ask bystanders to step away
