Assignment 1: Land Surveying
- Assignment 1 is due on June 14, 2024, and was given on June 6, 2024.
- The assignment consists of six tasks: extracting coordinates, computing distances, computing areas, computing bearings, and computing internal angles.
Tasks
- Extract coordinates of points A, B, C, and D using the provided table/diagram and present in a table with headings Point Name, Eastings, Northings, and Remarks.
- Compute distances AB, BC, CD, DA, AC, and BD using the extracted coordinates and present in a table.
- Compute areas of triangles ACB and ADC, and their sum, as well as the area enclosed by quadrilateral ABCD using Heron's Formula or rule.
- Compute areas of triangles ADB and DCB, and their sum, as well as the area of rectangle ABCD using Heron's Formula.
- Compute bearings of lines AB, BC, CD, DA, AC, and BD using the extracted coordinates and/or distances and present in a table.
- Compute internal angles at A, B, C, and D, and their sum, using the extracted coordinates or bearings and present in a table.
Instructions
- The assignment is a group assignment to be done and submitted within the practical periods.
- The assignment should be done manually on A4 sheets or in a group assignment notebook.
- The finished assignment should be scanned or captured in a clear legible manner and saved as one file in pdf format on a pen-drive.
- The file name should consist of the assignment number, class, group number, year, and course name.
- The cover sheet should indicate the department, class, course code and name, and the name, index number, and signature of every member in the group.
- The originals of A4 sheets or notebooks and the pen-drives should be submitted to the course instructor through the class representatives.
- All assignments and practicals should be compiled and submitted in both hard copies and soft copies.
