College of Science Laboratory - CEA Building Policies and Guidelines

The College of Science Laboratory - CEA Building is located at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) A. Mabini Campus.
The laboratory supports experiments for courses like General Physics, General Chemistry, Chemistry for Engineers, and Physics for Engineers for both the College of Engineering and the Institute of Technology students.
The laboratory also supports undergraduate research related to chemistry and physics based on the needs of the researchers.
Laboratory hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM and Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
The schedule for the use of laboratory rooms is determined by the Laboratory Head before the start of each term.
Students are required to attend a mandatory orientation on Policies and Guidelines before using the laboratory.
Students need a passing score on the Policies and Guidelines examination before participating in any laboratory activity.
The use of laboratory rooms is strictly implemented as scheduled. Unauthorized access outside scheduled hours is prohibited.
To use laboratory facilities, equipment, glasswares, materials and chemicals, students must submit a Borrower’s Slip at least three days prior.
Students must adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines outlined in the laboratory manual and by the faculty in charge.
All laboratory activities must be conducted in the presence of the assigned faculty.
Experiments or use of equipment should not be initiated without faculty supervision.
Students must complete any required safety training and attend pre-laboratory briefings or safety meetings.
Students must read and understand the lab manual and any specific instructions provided by the faculty before starting an experiment.
All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, specifically lab gowns, safety goggles, and gloves. The laboratory adheres to a “No appropriate PPE, No experiment” policy.
Students must ensure emergency equipment like eyewash stations, safety showers, and fire extinguishers are functional and accessible.
All necessary chemicals must be available, properly labelled and reviewed with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Laboratory equipment should be inspected for proper functioning, any damaged or malfunctioning equipment must be reported to the instructor.
The work area should be clean and organized before starting any experiment.
Necessary equipment and materials should be arranged as per the experimental procedure.
The following activities are prohibited inside the laboratory:
- Eating, drinking, chewing gum, smoking.
- Horseplay of any sort.
- Sleeping.
- Listening to music using any gadget.
- Playing computer games.
