Early Conquests (1710-1720s)

• Abulay Khan, a Kazakh khan, began his conquests in the early 18th century
• Initially, he conquered smaller tribes and territories in western Mongolia and eastern Kazakhstan
• His early conquests were marked by military campaigns against the Oirat Mongols, a powerful confederation of Mongol tribes

Conquest of Turkestan (1720s-1730s)

• Abulay Khan turned his attention to Turkestan, a region in western Central Asia
• He conquered the cities of Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara, incorporating them into his Khanate
• His conquest of Turkestan brought him into conflict with the Persian Empire, which claimed sovereignty over the region

Conquest of Dzungaria (1730s-1740s)

• Abulay Khan next turned his attention to Dzungaria, a region in western Mongolia
• He conquered the Dzungar Khanate, a powerful Mongol khanate that controlled much of western Mongolia
• His conquest of Dzungaria brought him into conflict with the Qing Dynasty of China, which claimed sovereignty over the region

Peak of Power (1740s-1750s)

• Abulay Khan's conquests reached their peak in the 1740s and 1750s, with his Khanate stretching from western Mongolia to eastern Kazakhstan
• He established a capital at Turkestan and ruled over a diverse population of Mongols, Kazakhs, and other Central Asian tribes
• His Khanate became a major power in Central Asia, rivaling the Qing Dynasty and the Persian Empire
