Keyboarding Technique
- Proper keyboarding technique includes correct posture, arm and hand position and proper keystroking.
Posture
- Sit relaxed with a straight spine leaning slightly forward from the waist.
- Center your body in front of the keyboard, so that your body is directly in front of the "J" key.
- Maintain a comfortable distance from the keyboard, approximately a hand-span.
- Place your feet flat on the floor, slightly apart, for balance.
Arm and Hand Position
- Keep your arms relaxed with your elbows naturally close to the body.
- Your forearms should be almost parallel with the slope of the keyboard.
- Ensure fingers are curved with tips of fingers resting lightly on the keys.
- Keep hands and wrists “quiet” and almost motionless.
- Maintain low wrists, with the palms of hands not resting on the keyboard.
Keystroking Technique
- Use the tips of your fingers to operate the assigned keys.
- Use a circular, pecking motion (down and inward) when pressing keys.
