Kawasaki Disease
- Rare illness that causes vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels)
- Affects mostly children under 5, with boys and girls equally affected
- May cause complications in children
Symptoms

Acute Phase:
- Fever lasting 5 days or more
- Conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva)
- Strawberry tongue (red and swollen)
- Painless peeling of palms and soles
- Rash
- Swollen lymph nodes

Subacute Phase:
- Fever subsides
- Irritability decreases
- Rash fades or disappears
- Conjunctivitis improves without discharge
- Possible development of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle)

Convalescent Phase:
- Lingering Symptoms
- Inflammation persists
- Lab values return to normal
- Elevated platelet count
- Arthritis
Diagnostics
- Fever
- Echocardiogram (Ultrasound) to assess heart function

Treatment
