Auxiliary Service Volunteer Program
- The program is designed to increase community involvement with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.
- Volunteers assist the department for civic, charitable, or humanitarian reasons without compensation.
- Volunteers are appointed based on their unique knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Eligibility Requirements
- Volunteers must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Agree to donate time on a regular basis
- Successfully complete a background investigation
- Meet the minimum eligibility requirements for the assigned position
- Respond to the Personnel Records Section to complete paperwork and receive a department-issued ID card
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Volunteers must:
- Maintain possession of department-issued building access cards and/or keys at all times
- Comply with the required orientation process
- Complete the separation process at the conclusion of their volunteer services
- Read only the shaded directives on Form 5449 P.D.
Supervisor/Commander Responsibilities
- The supervisor/commander of the element/watch to which a volunteer is assigned will:
- Be responsible for administrative matters pertaining to the volunteer, including scheduling
- Ensure the volunteer's hours of service are entered in the Automated Timekeeping System
- Ensure Form 5449 P.D. is signed and forwarded to the bureau commander
Procedure
- The Employment Section will:
- Process and appoint interested volunteers
- Determine an appropriate assignment for each volunteer based on their skills and experience
- Maintain a file of approved positions for volunteer assignment
- Supervisors or commanders desiring volunteer assistance may submit a memorandum indicating:
- Duties to be assigned to the volunteer and required skills
- Hours to be worked
- Duration of the assignment (if applicable)
- Commander/supervisor to whom the volunteer would report
