Journey of the Peacemaker
- Over 1,000 years ago the Peacemaker arrived on the shores of Onondaga Lake, New York bringing a message of peace to the warring Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, and Mohawk nations
- The Peacemaker traveled in a canoe of white stone to represent the truth of his message
- The Peacemaker successfully persuaded the Mohawk, Oneida, Cayuga, and Seneca nations to join the Great Peace
- The Peacemaker used Hiawatha's purple and white wampum strings to clear his mind and convince him to join the Great Peace
- Tadodaho, the most evil person of the time, refused to join the peace
- The Peacemaker convinced Tadodaho to become the last of the 50 chiefs, and caretaker of the council fire
- The five nations agreed to be bound together as five arrows to symbolize their strength and unity
- The five nations buried their war hatchets and replanted the Great White Pine Tree in a great hole to symbolize the peace. An eagle was placed on top of the tree to warn of any dangers to the peace
Birth of the Haudenosaunee
