He was affiliated with several secret organizations such as La Solidaridad and Propaganda Movement which aimed to promote equality among ethnic groups in the Philippine Islands and prepare the people for independence. These activities brought him attention from colonial authorities, leading to surveillance, harassment, and eventually his arrest and execution by firing squad.
