Study Notes
ISO Training Requirements
- Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department standard policy (S.D.P. 302P) outlines minimum training requirements for personnel, as dictated by the Insurance Services Office (ISO).
- The Record Management System (CFR S.D.P. 308P) and Career Professional Readiness Program (CFR S.D.P. 300P) manage ISO training.
- Personnel must complete specific training hours annually, based on rank/position. All personnel must complete 18 hours of facility training, 6 hours of hazardous material training, and 192 hours of company training.
- Officers and Acting Lieutenants require 12 additional hours of Officer training. Classified Drivers/Operators and Acting Drivers/Operators need 12 additional hours of Driver training.
- Training assignments for Hazardous Materials, Officer, and Driver training are all handled by the Training Division, while Company and Facility training isn't entirely assigned by this division.
- Personnel are accountable for tracking and totaling their company training hours for the year, ensuring 100% compliance through Vector Solutions. Failure to meet ISO compliance within the calendar year may result in disciplinary action.
- Company officers are responsible for monitoring crew member training progress each quarter, ensuring even distribution of hours throughout the year.
- Training exceptions should be documented in an “Exception file” managed by the Fire Chief or designee.
- Scheduling additional Facility training is the responsibility of the Company Officer.
- Training that is documented must be accurately reflected in the system to ensure proper compliance, and excessive training on the same topic should be avoided. Training data should be entered no more than two shifts apart.
- EMS and Specialty Team training does not count toward ISO hour requirements.
- Training records must be documented with corresponding dates reflected in the Training Division's Google Calendar.
- The goal is for all personnel to achieve 100% ISO compliance by the end of December. Avoid concentrating training into a short period.
