- Any pure, clean, and harmless food or drink is permitted unless explicitly forbidden by Islamic law (Sharīʿah).
- Permissible foods include plants, drinks, marine animals (living in water), wild animals (excluding birds of prey), and game.
- Lawful consumption methods include proper slaughter of animals and birds, and hunting using legal methods.
Forbidden Food and Drink
- Forbidden foods include unclean (najīs) foods declared as filth by Islamic law.
- Examples of unclean foods include dead animals, strangled animals, animals killed by injury or falls, partially eaten animals, and swine (pork) and products made from it.
- Animals sacrificed without invoking Allah's name are also forbidden.
- Intoxicants (alcohol) and drugs are forbidden.
- Forbidden animals also include donkeys.
Additional Forbidden Food and Drink
- Harmful (khabīth) foods are forbidden, including harmful plants, substances like tobacco, and pernicious animals such as insects, dogs, vultures, snakes.
- Wild animals with fangs and birds with talons (that hunt) are forbidden.
