Study Notes
- The text discusses various aspects of Jihad within the Islamic faith, focusing on its principles, laws, and applications.
- Jihad is explained as a struggle for self-improvement and purification, aligning with the mission of prophets.
- The core principle of Jihad involves believers purifying themselves from sins, aiming to become true human beings.
Internal and External Jihad
- Internal Jihad concerns overcoming one's desires, while external Jihad involves defending the faith.
Stages and Principles of Jihad
- Jihad's principles aim to purify believers and were a reason for the dispatch of prophets.
- Scriptures state messengers were sent to purify people, teach them the scripture and wisdom, and instruct them on what they did not know before.
- Humans often need refinement, provided by prophets who act as guides.
- Messengers begin by publicly proclaiming and teaching to cleanse people's souls from disbelief and sin, using scripture and creation as tools.
- Messengers were sent to recite signs to people, purify them, teach them scripture, wisdom, and what they did not know.
- After receiving the first revelation, messengers return home filled with awe, feeling the weight of responsibility for their people's suffering.
- The first revelation commands the messenger to arise, warn, magnify God, purify garments, shun abomination, give not to seek increase, and be patient for God.
- This revelation marks the beginning of the call to Islam.
- The call starts within the messenger's household and close relatives, then extends to the community, facing threats and torture in public.
- In Mecca, the messenger was not allowed to retaliate.
- Islam aims to free people from darkness into the light of belief, liberate them from worshipping false idols, and elevate them from earthly constraints to paradise.
- Islam signifies peace, salvation, and submission, intending to bring peace to humanity by creating inner peace within individuals first.
- Peace and order are fundamental in Islam, promoting a harmonious environment for all, discouraging violence, and prohibiting injustice and bloodshed.
- Taking one life unjustly is likened to killing all of humanity, while saving one life is equivalent to saving all of humanity.
- Islam aims to eliminate corruption and injustice, seeking to harmonize earth with paradise in peace and harmony.
- Islam advocates living with wisdom and justice, only using force against those who perpetuate injustice, oppression, and deceit, and who hinder the call to Islam.
- Islam defends itself because it is a religion protecting humanity's well-being in both worlds.
- Islam reserves the right to defend itself if non-believers, polytheists, or obstructors hinder the call to Islam and prevent others from listening to its message.
- Islam offers three options to its enemies:
Laws of Jihad
- Believers must not transgress God's boundaries and must adhere to divine laws regarding the use of force.
- Believers exchange their lives and possessions for paradise, dedicating themselves to God's cause and seeking divine pleasure.
- Impeding God's cause with lineage, wealth, or tribalism displeases God.
- Believers should fight for God against those who fight them, without transgression, as God does not love transgressors.
- Believers are instructed not to initiate aggression and to reject dishonest methods, avoiding killings initiated by non-Muslims.
- Wars started by other people include harming innocents, mutilating bodies, destroying the environment, and committing injustices.
- Force is only permissible when unavoidable and only to the extent necessary.
- When engaging in unavoidable combat, believers are instructed to prepare themselves morally and spiritually, exercising caution.
- One Muslim is strong enough to defeat ten enemies, which signifies the spiritual preparation necessary.
- Muslims must have strong faith, belief in God, and avoid sin to achieve the blessing of strength.
- Faith and righteousness are invincible forces.
- One should not lose heart, as help and support will be granted to true believers and righteous individuals.
- Besides moral strength, believers must equip themselves with advanced weaponry.
- Strength is essential for achieving goals, so believers must advance technologically to avoid exploitation, following "right is might".
- Believers must prevent non-believers from thinking that "might makes right."
- Believers are urged to prepare with strength and readiness to deter enemies of God.
Military Deployment
- An Islamic state should have enough influence to deter aggression from disbelievers and oppressors.
- A strong Islamic state aims to protect the vulnerable, maintain peace and justice, and prevent oppression and destruction and they can do this by combining strong faith and modern technology.
