Types of Data
- Categorical (Qualitative) data refers to information that is non-numerical and categorical in nature.
- Examples include colors, types of animals, opinions, and feelings.
- Numerical (Quantitative) data refers to information that is measured and expressed in numerical form or quantities.
- Discrete data consists of values that are distinct and separate, usually in whole numbers.
- Continuous data can take any value within a certain range and can be measured with precision.
- Examples include height, weight, and temperature
Four Levels of Measurements
- Nominal Level: consists of categories or labels with no numerical significance.
- For example, gender.
- Ordinal Level: have specific order/ranking.
- The categories are distinct, they also have a relative position or rank in relation to one another.
- For example (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and (poor, fair, excellent).
