Four Types of Miracles
- Healing Miracles: Jesus healed people from illnesses. This action embodies God's kingdom where suffering is absent.
- Exorcism Miracles: Jesus expelled evil spirits and demons from people. Exorcism in the book of Mark relates to healing or returning someone to a state of purity.
- Nature Miracles: Jesus displayed power over the elements. Nature is subject to Jesus's command as he created everything.
- Resurrection Miracles: Reviving someone from death. The presentation notes specific examples of Jesus's resurrection miracles: Raising Lazarus, the Widow of Nain's son, and a synagogue leader's daughter.
Specific Miracles
- Wedding Feast: Jesus, with his disciples and mother, attended a wedding. The hosts ran out of wine, prompting Jesus to turn water into wine. This miracle showcases divine power, Mary's belief in Jesus, and Jesus in touch with ordinary people. The water represents purifying waters like baptism and the Holy Eucharist.
- Feeding of the 5000: Jesus was preaching to 5000 people when they grew hungry. The crowd had no food. Jesus took 5 loaves and 2 fish & miraculously multiplied them to feed the crowd. This is considered a nature miracle, and evidence that God provides for those who trust in him.
- Walking on Water: Jesus sent his disciples ahead while he spoke to a crowd of 5000. Waves and wind caused the boat to violently rock, leading to the disciples' fear. Jesus walked on the water towards the boat, and helped a fearful Peter who walked on the water. Demonstrating divine power over nature, Jesus emphasized faith in Him, and not doubt. This was also a nature miracle.
