Understanding the Nature and Branches of Philosophy

Introduction

Plato and Aristotle attempted to standardize objectively what is 'beautiful' while the Sophist Protagoras argued that judgments are entirely subjective.

Philosophical Anthropology

Philosophical anthropology is a discipline dealing with questions of metaphysics and the phenomenology of the human person, and interpersonal relationships.

Gnoseology

Gnoseology is the study of knowledge and belief. It is related to epistemology but may focus more on the psychological aspects of knowledge and belief.

Metaphysics

Metaphysics is the study of the fundamental nature of reality, including the relationship between mind and body, substance and attribute, events and time, and the ultimate nature of things.

Augustine of Hippo was a Christian philosopher who wrote extensively on a variety of topics, including the immortality of the soul, language and learning, freedom of choice, human responsibility, and the numeric structure of reality. His works include De vera religione, which is a kind of summa of his early Christian philosophy.
