Interview Cheating Indicators
- Lip-syncing, while not always cheating, can be a sign of suspected cheating. It is one possible indicator, but not a conclusive one. Other potential issues are audio problems or difficulty covering mouth during typing.
- Low audio/video quality is a common issue in interviews, but it's important to be cautious not to automatically flag it as cheating. This is especially important for global interviews. Unnatural or unusual behaviors can indicate potentially dishonest actions.
- Visual cues like robotic speech, inconsistent speech patterns, or incorrect typing (e.g., copy-pasting) might indicate cheating. Also, candidates without proper camera framing may warrant questions about positioning.
Combination of Signals
- Multiple signals of suspected cheating should warrant closer review. Mental notes of multiple indicators, like unusual words, lip-syncing, or low-quality video output, are vital
- It's not the IVE's job to determine definitive cheating, but rather to flag potentially suspicious behavior. QC teams then make a determination.
- New indicators to watch include long pauses between question and answer, the use of scripted language, improper typing or data types, disorganization when answering, unnecessary background sounds, and or the use of external aide/s. QC teams should be on the lookout for additional suspicious behaviors.
QC Impact
- QC is critical for validating cheating observations and verifying that interview standards are met.
- Karat clients take cheating seriously.
- When flagged, clients investigate the interview's integrity. The interviewer's handling of the flagged interview reflects on Karat.
