Study Notes
Institutional Standards Assessment (ISA)
- ISA is a comprehensive evaluation process that uses six Standards and 45 Criteria for Institutional Accreditation Outcome determination.
- All higher education institutions (HEIs) must be assessed against all Standards and Criteria.
- Accreditation outcomes:
- Meeting all six Standards awards "Accredited" status.
- Meeting five Standards leads to "Conditionally Accredited" status, requiring Institutional Standards Reassessment (ISR).
- Meeting fewer than five Standards places the HEI "On Probation" before ISR.
Institutional Standards Reassessment (ISR)
- HEIs showing inadequate performance in any Standard must undergo ISR.
- ISR is conducted by a separate panel, revisiting only the Standards rated as Not Met or Partially Met.
- ISR must occur within one year of receiving the ISA Report, with submission deadlines confirmed by OAAAQA.
Overview of Institutional Standards and Criteria
- Six Standards evaluated:
- Governance and Management (includes governance system, risk management)
- Academic Provision and Resources (focuses on graduate attributes, teaching frameworks)
- Students and Student Support Services (encompasses student conduct, career services)
- Human Resources (covers staff planning, professional development)
- Research and Innovation (assesses research strategy, ethics)
- External Engagement (includes interaction with industry, community visibility)
ISA Schedule
- The ISA schedule aligns with the national Review Schedule available on the OAAAQA website.
- Accreditation status may be revoked by OAAAQA if significant changes affect compliance with Standards.
Reaccreditation Application
- Accredited status lasts five years; HEIs must submit a reaccreditation application at least six months before expiration.
- If unable to meet this deadline due to emergencies, HEIs must apply for rescheduling.
External Accreditation
- External accreditation by entities other than OAAAQA is complementary and requires OAAAQA review.
- International External Quality Assurance (IEQA) activities are endorsed through a detailed process outlined by OAAAQA.
ISA Process Preparation
- Steps include appointing a Review Director, preparing a panel shortlist for approval, and ensuring no conflicts of interest among reviewers.
- Key dates for ISA and communication details must be confirmed early in the process.
Indicative Timeline
- Planning visits involve logistical discussions and venue inspections to ensure smooth ISA processes.
