India's Peninsular Plateau

The approximate area covered by the Peninsular Plateau is about 16 lakh sq km (India as a whole is 32 lakh sq km).

The exceptions to the general west to east flow of rivers in the Peninsular Plateau are Narmada-Tapti, which flow from east to west in a rift caused by divergent boundary.

The primary geological compositions of the Peninsular Plateau are Archaean gneisses and schists, making it a highly stable block.
