For employees with less than 15 years of service, gratuity is calculated as half a month's pay for each completed year, up to a maximum of 6 months' pay.

If a railway employee dies in service, their widow or dependent children are eligible for gratuity based on their length of service at the time of death.

If the employee died after completing one year but before three years of service, the family receives one month's pay as gratuity.

If the employee died after completing three years but before five years of service, the family receives three months' pay as gratuity.

If the employee died after completing five years of service, the family receives half a month's pay for each completed year of service, subject to a minimum of twelve months' pay.

The cessation of temporary posts on construction projects after the completion of different phases of work is not considered a 'reduction of establishment' for gratuity purposes.

If a railway servant dies after retirement or discharge without receiving their gratuity, their widow, widows, and/or dependent children receive the payment. If a female railway servant dies before receiving gratuity, her dependent children will get it, regardless of their father's employment status.

The controlling officer determines the amount of gratuity and the percentage of distribution among the widow(s) and dependent children.

If the controlling officer is ranked below the authority who could dismiss the railway servant, gratuity can't be withheld, and the amount can't be set below the maximum allowed without the higher authority's approval.

This is a special payment given to relatives of a deceased non-gazetted railway servant, if they are dependent and in financial difficulty due to the death.

Besides widow, children, parents, brothers, or sisters, other relatives can receive compassionate gratuity with the Railway Board's approval if they were dependent and face financial hardship.
