Peninsular Plateau
- The Peninsular Plateau is divided into two distinct parts: the Malwa Plateau and the Deccan Plateau.
- The two plateaus are separated by the Vindhya and Satpura ranges.
- Several low hills surround the plateau on all three sides up to the Ganges.
Island Regions of India
- The Lakshadweep Islands are a group of 36 coral islands located in the shallow waters of the Arabian Sea, 300 km west of the Kerala coast.
- Most islands are uninhabited due to the absence of drinking water.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands
- The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are located in the Bay of Bengal and are larger and more numerous than the Lakshadweep Islands.
- They are the remnants of a submerged volcanic mountain range.
- India's only active volcano is located at Barren Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Shiwalik or Outer Himalayan Range
- The Shiwalik or Outer Himalayan Range is the southernmost Himalayan range.
- On average, it is 900m to 1100m high.
- The Himalayan range is also known as the Lesser Himalayas or the Middle Himalayas.
- They are covered with dense forests.
