Independent Samples T-Test

  • Compares the means of two independent groups to determine whether there is a significant difference between the associated population means.
  • Requires equal variances, independence, and normal distribution.
  • Used to determine if there is a statistically significant difference between the population means.
  • Example: comparing the means of two groups (e.g., males and females) to see if there is a significant difference between them.

Experimental Design

  • Between-subjects design, where two or more independent groups are compared.
  • Unpaired t-test, where two independent samples are compared.
  • Used to compare the means of two independent groups.

Two-Way ANOVA (Factorial ANOVA)

  • Compares the means of two or more groups based on two or more factors (nominal IV).

  • Used to test the interaction between the two factors and their effects on the DV.

  • Example: exploring the effect of age group (adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood) and gender on a particular outcome.### Hypothesis Testing

  • A T-Test is used to determine whether the mean of a population is statistically different from a known or hypothesized value.

  • It tests whether the variable's mean is compared against a "test value" which is a known or hypothesized value of the mean in the population.

Linear Regression

  • Linear Regression is used to predict the unknown value of a variable (Y) using the known value of another variable (X).
  • The linear regression equation is Y = a + bX, where a and b are unknown constants.
  • The coefficient of Y (b) will change if there is an increase in X.
  • Linear Regression is used to predict the unknown value of Y when the value of X is known.

Coefficient of Determination

  • The coefficient of determination is a measure of how well the independent variable (X) explains the variation in the dependent variable (Y).

ANOVA

  • ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) is used to determine whether there is a significant difference between the means of two or more groups.
  • One-Way ANOVA is used to compare the means of one independent variable across three or more groups.
