Importing Wood and Wood-Like Products

  • Exporters must follow ISPM-15 policy of IPPC when importing wood or wood-like products used as packing materials.
  • ISPM-15 policy applies to import of wood packing materials or related products, including machinery.
  • Importers must submit a Phytosanitary Certificate (plant health certificate) along with export documents.
  • Phytosanitary Certificate is required to be submitted to the relevant plant pest control authority.
  • Wood and wood products must be disinfected by heat treatment.
  • Heat treatment is conducted by the relevant government agency of the country of origin.

Import Regulations for Sea-Going Vessels

  • Sea-going vessels, including oil tankers and fishing trawlers, must not exceed 25 years of age to be importable.
  • A certificate of fitness issued by the International Classification Society can waive the 25-year age limit.
  • International passenger cruise ships are exempt from this regulation and can be imported with permission from the Ministry of Shipping.
