    • Advise your Unit Convenor or Faculty PACE Manager immediately if you feel unsafe during a PACE activity.
    • Ensure you received a safety induction prior to any PACE activity covering: health and safety risk measures, first aid, fire and emergency evacuation procedures, and injury/incident reporting procedures.
    • Seek clarification on any specialized instructions necessary to perform your assigned role, if applicable.
    • Report any incidents or accidents to the partner organization/supervisor and inform your Unit Convenor or Faculty PACE Manager.

    Risk Assessment

    • Identify Hazards: Objects, environments, or situations that have the potential to cause harm.
    • Assess Risks: Probability of harm occurring, considering the severity and likelihood.
    • Control Risks: Implement measures to mitigate the risk.
    • Review: Regularly review implemented control measures for effectiveness.

    Hazard Categories

    • Physical: Excess noise, poor lighting, trip hazards, radiation, temperature extremes, magnetic fields, pressure extremes.
    • Ergonomic: Repetitive movements, poor postures, improper workstation setup.
    • Psychosocial: Bullying, unreasonable workloads, distressed individuals, aggressive customers, discrimination.
    • Biological: Bacteria, virus, mould, or toxin exposures from soil, water, humans, animals, or insects.

    • Mechanical: Inappropriate or lack of machine guarding, equipment malfunction or breakdown.

    Assessing Risk

    • Consequence: Severity of potential harm.
    • Likelihood: Frequency of exposure and probability of harm occurring.

    Managing Risks and Control Measures

    • Control Measures: Actions to eliminate or minimize risks.
    • Hierarchy of Risk Controls (ranked from most to least effective):
      • Elimination
      • Substitution
      • Engineering controls
