- Advise your Unit Convenor or Faculty PACE Manager immediately if you feel unsafe during a PACE activity.
- Ensure you received a safety induction prior to any PACE activity covering: health and safety risk measures, first aid, fire and emergency evacuation procedures, and injury/incident reporting procedures.
- Seek clarification on any specialized instructions necessary to perform your assigned role, if applicable.
- Report any incidents or accidents to the partner organization/supervisor and inform your Unit Convenor or Faculty PACE Manager.
Risk Assessment
- Identify Hazards: Objects, environments, or situations that have the potential to cause harm.
- Assess Risks: Probability of harm occurring, considering the severity and likelihood.
- Control Risks: Implement measures to mitigate the risk.
- Review: Regularly review implemented control measures for effectiveness.
Hazard Categories
- Physical: Excess noise, poor lighting, trip hazards, radiation, temperature extremes, magnetic fields, pressure extremes.
- Ergonomic: Repetitive movements, poor postures, improper workstation setup.
- Psychosocial: Bullying, unreasonable workloads, distressed individuals, aggressive customers, discrimination.
- Biological: Bacteria, virus, mould, or toxin exposures from soil, water, humans, animals, or insects.
- Chemical: Flammable, oxidizing, corrosive, toxic, or explosive substances.
- Electrical: Frayed cords, overloaded power boards, lack of electrical isolation, no safety switch.
- Mechanical: Inappropriate or lack of machine guarding, equipment malfunction or breakdown.
