- An Incident Management System (IMS) will be in place to manage all firefighting operations
- All firefighting operations will be conducted under an IMS with fire service incident priorities as the overall focus
- Firefighters will not attempt interior operations until there are two firefighters available outside the structure who can attempt rescue of firefighters, if necessary
- When referring to fireground operations, the following terms will apply: apparatus, capability, inside division, inside truck work, outside division, outside truck work, lieutenant, captain, chief, and command.
- The fireground structure is divided into three areas: the fire area, the structure out of the fire area, and the tactical functions of Outside Truck Work, exposure protection, water supply, RIC, and defensive operations readiness.
- The Captain or Company Officer performing Outside Truck Work normally assumes the IMS assignment of Outside Truck Work.
- The key fireground tasks performed in the Outside Truck Work area are Laddering, Horizontal and Vertical Ventilation, Additional Forcible Entry, Utility Control, and Salvage.
- A vehicle equipped with a fire pump and hose for fire attack and water supply (Engine or Quint) is assigned to the Pumping Apparatus area.
