Study Notes

Human reproduction is the process by which humans reproduce and bear live offspring. The reproductive system consists of internal and external organs that work together to create and maintain life. This article focusing on the subtopics of male reproductive system, female reproductive system, fertilization, pregnancy, and menstrual cycle.

The male reproductive system is responsible for producing sperm and male sex hormones. The testes, located outside the body in a pouch of skin called the scrotum, are the glands responsible for sperm production and the sex hormone testes The sperm pass from the testes into the epididymis, where they underwone the final stages of maturation The sperm are then stored in the epididymis until they are ejaculated during sexual activity

The female reproductive system is responsible for producing gametes (called eggs or ova), certain sex hormones, and maintaining fertilized eggs as they develop into mature fetuses and become ready for delivery The female reproductive organs include the vagina, womb (uterus), fallopian tubes, and ovaries The ovaries produce eggs, and the uterus is a muscular organ where the fertilized egg implants and develops into a fetus

Fertilization occurs when a sperm meets an egg, which can fertilize it and create a zygote The zygote eventually becomes a fetus The fertilized egg then moves to the uterus, where the uterine lining has thickened in response to the normal hormones of the menstrual cycle If implantation doesn’t take place, the uterine lining sheads, which is called menstruation

P pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg implants into the thickened uterine lining and continues to develop The female reproductive system underwes periodicity, which starts at puberty and ends at menopause The periodicity is manifested by menstruation at intervals of about 28 days

The menstrual cycle is the normal process of the female reproductive system, which divides into the follicular and luteal phases, with ovulation occurring between phases The follicular phase begins with menstrual bleeding and ends right before the LH (luteinizing hormone) surge The luteal phase begins with the LH surge and ends with the onse of menstruation

The human reproductive system is a vital organ system that is responsible for the survival of the species. It is a collection of internal and external organs that work together to produce offspring The male and female reproductive systems work together to reproduce, with both a sperm and an egg needed for human reproduction The reproductive process itself is covered in other articles, as are the stages of pregnancy and the development of the unborn child during gestation
