Life Expectancy
- Measures the average number of years a person is expected to live based on the mortality rates of a given population
- Calculated using the life expectancy at birth in years
- Range: 0 ( lowest) to 100 (highest)
- Weightage in HDI: 1/3
Gross National Income (GNI)
- Measures the average income of a person in a given country
- Calculated using the Gross National Income per capita in USD
- Range: 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest)
- Weightage in HDI: 1/3
Human Poverty Index (HPI)
- Measures the percentage of people who are not living a long and healthy life, are not educated, and are not earning a decent income
- Calculated using the following indicators:
- Probability of not surviving to age 60
- Adult literacy rate
- Percentage of population not using an improved water source
- Percentage of population below income poverty line
- Range: 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest)
- Weightage in HDI: 0 (not a direct component, but related to HDI)
Education Index
- Measures the average education level of a population
- Calculated using the following indicators:
- Adult literacy rate
- Gross enrollment ratio for primary, secondary, and tertiary education
- Range: 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest)
- Weightage in HDI: 1/3
