- Epidermis is a stratified epithelium, found on palms of hands and soles of feet, and is extremely thick to resist wear and tear
- Dermis is composed of dense connective tissue, containing blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves
- Dermis is connected to the underlying deep fascia, also known as subcutaneous tissue
Skin Appendages
- Include nails, hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands
Fascia
- Two main types: superficial fascia and deep fascia
- Superficial fascia lies between skin and underlying muscles and bones, and is composed of loose areolar and adipose tissue
- Superficial fascia unites the dermis of the skin to the underlying deep fascia
- Deep fascia is a membranous layer of connective tissue, investing deeper structures of the body
