    Anatomy of Female Reproductive Organs

    • The vulva consists of the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, external urethral meatus, clitoris, and vestibule.
    • The vagina is a canal that connects the uterus with the vestibule and lies between the urinary bladder and rectum.
    • The anterior vaginal wall is 7.5 cm long and related to the bladder base and urethra, while the posterior wall is 9 cm long and related to the rectum.
    • The uterus is a hollow muscular organ that lies between the urinary bladder and rectum and is divided into the fundus, body, and cervix.
    • The fundus is convex in all directions and is covered by peritoneum, with the fallopian tubes, ovarian ligament, and round ligament attached to it.
    • The body of the uterus narrows from the fundus to the cervix, and its junction with the cervix is called the isthmus.
    • The cervix is about 1 inch long and 1 inch wide, and it projects through the anterior wall of the vagina and is divided into the supra-vaginal and portio-vaginalis portions.
    • Ligaments attached to the uterus include the ovarian ligament, round ligament, broad ligaments, and cervical ligaments.
    • The fallopian tubes are a vital structure extending between the uterus and the ovary, measuring 10-12 cm in length and divided into the interstitial, isthmus, ampulla, and fimbria parts.
    • The ovary is almond-shaped and grayish-pink in color, measuring 3x2.5x2 cm in diameter.
    • The female urethra is 4 cm long, wider and more dilatable than the male urethra, and begins at the bladder neck before descending downwards and forwards.
    • The vestibule contains the external urethral meatus, hymen, vestibular bulbs, and Bartholin’s glands.
