Attendance Policy for Students at the Institute for Study Abroad Florence

• Attendance is mandatory for classroom times and co-curricular activities.
• Regular attendance is crucial for academic success.
• Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes unless there is a legitimate reason for absence.
• Tardiness is defined as arriving after the instructor starts class or activity or leaving before the end of class or activity.
• Absences will negatively impact a student's academic performance and result in a reduction of the final course grade.
• Students must notify the instructor before the start time for any tardiness/absence and missed material is their responsibility.
• Students must attend all site visits scheduled for courses in which they are enrolled.
• Doctor’s letters from telemed or other online medical visits must be sent directly from the physician to the Coordinator for Health, Safety, and Wellness to obtain an "excused absence."
• Students who miss a quiz, test, or exam without a medical certificate or doctor's note will not be able to reschedule or make up the missed test and will receive a zero or “F” for the exam.
• In some instances, students may have academic scheduling conflicts at their home institution or other justifiable reasons which may delay arrival to the program.
• Under special circumstances, students may be allowed to leave the program early, without academic sanctions, such as for medical reasons or family emergencies.
• Students are expected to remain in class during the time of instruction except for a reasonable amount of time to use the restroom, and leaving class early without returning will result in an unexcused absence.
