Study Notes
- Members are entitled to payment of accrued sick leave when they retire or resign with at least 20 years of service and proper notice.
- Members discharged for just cause or resigning while charges are being investigated are not eligible for compensation.
- The maximum sick leave accrual is 480 hours, and compensation for accrued sick leave is paid within 30 days of termination.
- Members can choose to have all accrued sick time paid out at 50% or 60% or deposited into their Retirement Healthcare Funding Plan.
- Notification of absence and the reason for the request must be given at least one hour prior to the start of the member's duty shift.
- The District may require a physician's verification of illness or proof of visit for consecutive duty shift absences.
- Abuse of sick leave may result in discipline.
- Members who sustain an on-the-job illness or injury qualifying for Workmen's Compensation benefits shall be granted benefits.
- Each member receives 24 hours of personal time, which can be used for personal emergencies or scheduled vacations.
- Extended sick leave can be taken from vacation time, and additional sick time can be donated or loaned under certain conditions.
- Members receive paid time off for funerals of immediate family members
- Members summoned for jury duty can be released from shift duty for up to 10 shifts and must sign over compensation received for that time to the District
