    Study Notes

Hoffman Estates Fire Department Standard Operating Guidelines

    Purpose

    • The purpose of this guideline is to provide standardized and predetermined responses to all incidents classified as a Brush Fire (BRUSH) by Northwest Central Dispatch (NWCD).

    Policy

    • It is the policy of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department to follow this guideline, with the option to alter it to achieve a more appropriate response based on information received.

    Procedure

    Within HEFD Jurisdiction

    • For incidents requiring a larger response than the originally dispatched Code 2, the response will be upgraded to a Brush Fire (BRUSH) with Brush 24 (towed by TRT24) and Battalion 6 responding.
    • When Command requests an upgrade to a Code 4 or MABAS Box, NWCD will balance out the call to include all apparatus from the first call type to the final call type.
    • Within Hoffman Estates, Brush 24 responses will be brought to the scene by the crew from A24.
    • The Shift Commander will determine how to best adjust staffing at Station 24 based on availability and qualifications of remaining personnel.

Outside HEFD Jurisdiction (Mutual Aid/Box Alarms)

    • BT24 will respond with a minimum of two personnel to the dispatched report of the need for BT24 for mutual aid or a MABAS Box Alarm.
    • Staffing for the apparatus will be the Officer and Driver/Operator of Engine 24.
    • E24 Jump 1 will remain at Station 24.
    • The Shift Commander will determine how to best adjust staffing at Station 24 based on availability and qualifications of remaining personnel.

    Definitions

    • NWCD will not initiate an incident with the BRUSH code, which is used to elevate a Code 2 for Fire Departments with areas affected by large brush fires.

    Exceptions

    • In cases of conflict, HEFD Standard Operating Guidelines will take precedence over MABAS Illinois Policies and Procedures and MABAS 1 Operating Guidelines/Policy Statements.
