Purpose
- Ride-along guidelines for non-Fire Department employees on departmental apparatus and vehicles.
Definitions
Policy
- All riders and ride-along arrangements must be approved by the Shift Commander and a staff officer for civilians.
- Associated professionals (firefighters, paramedics, police officers, etc.) can be approved by the Shift Commander.
Rules for Ride-Along
- Riders must call in advance for an appointment on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Scheduling preferred on Saturday or Sunday between 0800 and 2200 hours.
- No riders from 2200 to 0800 hours.
- Riders are not allowed to participate in fire inspections.
- Maximum of one ride-along per apparatus at any one time.
Age and Waiver Requirements
- Minimum age for riders is 17 years old.
- Children under 17 can ride-along only during "Bring Your Child To Work Day" or with the Fire Chief's approval.
