Study Notes
Air and Oxygen Fill Systems
- The air fill station at Station 22 is located in the hose room and must be inspected by the Company Officer of Engine 22 and/or Tower 22 by 0900 hours every morning.
- The tank gauges on the fill station should indicate 4,500 psi or greater, and at least one of the tank gauges should indicate at least 5,500 psi.
- Only authorized personnel who are trained to operate the breathing air compressor can turn it on.
- The compressor must be operated according to the manufacturer's specific operations.
Cascade System (Reserve Tower 22)
- The cascade system on Reserve Tower 22 must be inspected during apparatus inspection every morning.
- All tank gauges should indicate 4,500 psi or greater, and at least one of the tank gauges should indicate 5,500 psi or greater.
- If both conditions are not present, it must be reported to the Company Officer of Engine 22 and/or Tower 22, and arrangements will be made to have the cascade filled.
- The cascade on Reserve Tower 22 is to be filled to 6,000 psi using Station 22's fill station and the station air compressor.
Oxygen Cascade System
- The oxygen fill station bottle status at Station 22 must be inspected every morning by 0900 hours.
- If the system does not have at least 6 cylinders with greater than 300 psi, the EMS Officer must be contacted.
Refilling Guidelines
- No oxygen, SCBA, or SCUBA cylinders are to be refilled higher than their rated capacity.
- All tank and cylinder hydrostatic stamps must be checked and must be within approved limits (5 years for all steel, aluminum, and carbon composite, and 3 years for all fiberglass wrapped cylinders and carbon composite cylinders manufactured in 2000 or older) in order to be filled.
- The regulator must be adjusted to the appropriate pressure setting prior to flowing any air into the cylinder or tank.
- Tanks or cylinders must be placed in their appropriate protective shield when being refilled.
- All small oxygen tanks must be refilled utilizing the fragmentation shield when using the Station 22 oxygen cascade system.
- All SCBA and SCUBA cylinders must be refilled utilizing the fragmentation shield when using the Station 22 fill station or the Reserve Tower 22 cascade system.
- Approved eye protection must be worn during the refilling of all small oxygen tanks, SCBA, and SCUBA tanks.
